In urban rural India, women are often not allowed to venture outside their homes, not given equal say in decision making processes at the community level and don’t view themselves as business women. Not only does this have a negative effect on women self esteem, gender inequality also drives down economic growth. At Sackhumvit we are dedicated to empowering women to achieve their full economic potential by inspiring women to become advocates, change makers and leaders in their community. We equip them with resources, opportunities and a platform that facilitates networking, learning and sharing experiences. This day will always remain very special.
We started with baby steps and have grown since then. We are excited to share that our new WEP Centre on New BEL Road, Bengaluru was formally inaugurated on 23rd March, 2021, by Abida Begum who was the first woman to come forward and enroll for our empowerment skill development projects. She not only acquired the skill herself, she encourages other women in the neighborhood to come forth and enroll too. After cutting the ribbon Abida said she had not imagined a day like this would ever be possible in this lifetime. She said coming to the Centre changed her outlook and approach. Many other women at the Centre echoed the same feelings. The guests of honor, Chitra, Ritu, Rekha and others made a special mention on the services, capabilities and “no wait time” in receiving the ready products . Ms.Tara said the women inspite of their circumstances have been able to navigate challenges and are now an inspiration to many. The invitees appreciated the neat finishes and the variety of crafts on display. At Sackhumvit, we are taking actions and driving change towards women’s economic empowerment. Come visit us in our newly decorated Centre!
